INTERESTING RUSH, VERY INTERESTING
As some of you have probably heard, Rush Limbaugh has admitted to a drug intake that would make the classic lineup of Guns N' Roses blush. The fact that he continued to perform everyday is pretty impressive. Oxycontin is a pretty powerful drug. You can get pretty fucked up on it (Not that I would personally know, IP 149.101.1# at usdoj.gov. Honest! I've just done a lot of reading on the subject.) Even hydrocondone (commonly known as Tylenol 3, a codiene based opiate), taken in the numbers that Rush is reported to have, can inhibit your ability to speak for three hours at a time in a coherent way. It may soon turn out that Rush is the most functional junkie since Keith Richards.
The Florida authorities, in recent days raided several of Rush's doctors and siezed his records. This is to demonstrate that Limbaugh was "doctor shopping", as drug addicts sometimes do. I believe this practice was invented by Elvis Presley. Rush feels this is inappropriate. In a roundabout way, so do I. Virtually no one is charged with what Limbaugh appears likely to be. If these laws were enforced in an evenhanded manner, most of Major League Baseball, the NFL and ALL of Hollywood would be doing time right now. The reasons why this is happening appear to be pretty evident. Rush Limbaugh is an arrogant blowhard. But there is very likely a political component to this investigation. If nothing else, this screams of selective prosecution.
A few hours ago, Limbaugh read this statement on his radio show. The statement is rambling and indignant and I'm not going to address most of it. It speaks for itself, kind of.
But there's one part of the statement that's just too cute to ignore. "...the larger issue is that the seizure of Mr. Limbaugh's private medical records without going through the process outlined by the state legislature is clearly an invasion of Mr. Limbaugh's constitutional right to privacy."
If you know anything about Limbaugh's politics, you know that he is NOT a uniform supporter of a "constitutional right to privacy." Rush is (or was, it's been years since I've listened to his show) a particularly vocal opponent of Roe V. Wade (1973), which legalized abortion in the United States. Most people are not aware that Roe was not that groundbreaking a case. It was decided on the precedent of Griswold V. Conneticutt (1965). The Justices in Griswold found an implied right to privacy in the Constitution, not an explicit one. It is these two decisions that have driven conservatives like Limbaugh up a fucking wall for almost 40 years.
You know how people like Rush keep screaming for "strict constructionalist judges" on the Federal Courts? They mean judges who won't find implied rights in the Constitution. According to the likes of Rush, both Griswold and Roe are examples of "judicial activism." Rush has been very, very vocal about this activism.
Hey, Rush, If you want my sympathy...fine. You've got it. But it would be a lot easier to give if you weren't such a bloated fucking hypocrite. The next time you utter a fucking word about judicial activism, abortion, strict constructionism or implied rights in the Constitution on your stupid radio show, I hope someone calls you on it....you stupid prick.
It's people like you that give people like me a bad name.Labels: Fun With Politics, I Fought The Law
