DEMOCRATS ARE PUSSIES, PART THE SECOND
When their policy platform is released at the Democratic National Convention next week, the Democratic Party will state clearly and for the record their belief that media concentration is a "threat to democracy."
This strikes me as yet one more step in the Democrats continuing, almost Homer-esque odyssey to become Republicans. Republicans actually invented the whole line about the "big liberal media" being "out to get" them. The difference is, when the Republicans said it, they sounded like paranoid morons. When the Democrats say it, they sound like pathetic little "girlie men."
Firstly, the Democrats are wrong on the facts. One need only look to history to demonstrate this. Let's work off of the popular belief that television became widely popular in 1950. Between 1950 and today, some 54 years, the Democrats held the presidency for a combined 26 years. They further held the House of Representatives from 1954 to 1994, an uninterrupted 40 year run. The Senate was in Democratic hands from 1950 to 1952, 1958 to 1980, and 1986 to 1994. a total of 30 of the 54 applicable years. From 1950 to 1952, 1961 to 1969, 1977 to 1981, and 1993 to 1995, the Democratic Party held excutive and legislative power in combination. For most of those 54 the big media consisted of the three broadcast networks, the New York Times Co, the Washington Post Co and the Los Angeles Times Co. None of the above can be described as "conservative voices." Those were limited to small press publications such as the National Review and Human Events. It was only in the 1990's that television proliferated with the wide availability of cable television. To this day, more Americans get their news from the three broadcast networks than from cable. And of the cable networks, on Fox News can truly be described as conservative. God knows, the traditional media has never done anything unethical to support Democrats, have they?
If you teenagers want to have some fun, go here and do a search on some well-known media figures and see where their money is going.
For all the years that they held the levers of power, not once did the Democrats complain about the monopolization of the media. If anything, the media was far more concentrated when they were in power. While it couldn't be described as a monoploy, it might be called a combine. But it was a combine that was nuetral, if not friendly, to them. For them to feel so absolutely threatened by retards like Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly demonstates their intellectual weakness more than anything I could ever say. Of course, maybe the just feel the need to cry when the "media is mean."
This whining is especially amusing given that it is being done in light of Democratic speculation that the Sandy Berger investigation was leaked by Republicans for political reasons. This should prove that Democrats are also stupid. Of course the Republicans leaked it for political reasons. Even small children and the feeble-minded believe that. Let's look at the facts here. Sandy Berger is a career Democratic operative. He worked in two Democratic administrations (Carter's and Clinton's) and worked on several Democratic presidential campaigns (the first being George McGovern's) and was currently working as an "informal adviser" (whatever that means) to a challenger's campaign. Then Sandy was caught with his pants...ummm...full and a Republican White House found out about it. What the fuck do you think they're going to do with that information? They're going to sit on it until it can be released for maximum political impact. This is because they are professional politicians. Professional politicians very rarely ever let dumb shit like federal law get in the way of scoring points.
Former President Bill Clinton is, of course, shocked, shocked that these sort of things happen in politics. He has this really endearing sense of almost childlike innocence about politics. He also had to see Casablanca a few dozen times to truly believe that there actually was gambling in Rick's Bar. Of course, he found the investigation funny, as was true with most things that lead to indictments of Clinton associates.
Does the Bush administration want to distract attention from the report of the 9/11 Commission's report that will be released tomorrow? Sure they do. No one wants to be portrayed as being asleep at the switch four months before an election. If the Democrats were smart, they'd be concerned, too. While no one named Clinton is on the ballot this year, you will be seeing a lot of the former president and the party should be worried that the commission could grow a sense of humor and use a cover photo on the report like this,
Yes, the Republicans are a-scared of the report. Then the Democrats gave them a gift. The Republicans used that gift with maximum mercilessness and professionalism. Now the Democrats are whining about that.
This is but another reason that Democrats are pussies.
