REMEMBER WHEN CHENEY WAS CONSIDERED THE SMART ONE?
I've long had a heathy respect for the intellect if one Richard Bruce Cheney. Christ, the guy was White House Chief of Staff - long considered to be the second most powerful position in Washington - when he was my age (34). This is wildly impressive. Had he have stayed in Congress, instead of serving as Secretary of Defense, he, rather than Newt Gingrich, would have been Speaker of the House in 1994. I think we can all agree that this is not a stupid guy.
He's just taken up saying stupid things as a hobby this week.
Earlier this week, the Vice President of the United States said this,
"It's absolutely essential that eight weeks from today, on Nov. 2, we make the right choice, because if we make the wrong choice then the danger is that we'll get hit again and we'll be hit in a way that will be devastating from the standpoint of the United States."
In English, this means, "Vote for me or DIE!"
Even if you believe this to be true, it is an insanely stupid thing to say in public.
One would have thought that Vice President Cheney had learned his lesson from this experience, right?
Well, apparently not......
This is Cheney yesterday, speaking on unemployment and consumer spending, According to the AP,
Indicators measure the nation's unemployment rate, consumer spending and other economic milestones, but Vice President Dick Cheney says it misses the hundreds of thousands who make money selling on eBay.
"That's a source that didn't even exist 10 years ago," Cheney told an audience in Cincinnati on Thursday. "Four hundred thousand people make some money trading on eBay."
There are only two conclusions I can draw from these statements. Either Dick Cheney is so confident of victory that he's decided to handicap the inane statements of John Kerry by making a bunch of his own, or he's taken to snorting Ketamine for recreational purposes.
